Bharti Airtel leading telecom service provider, on Wednesday launched a new and a much-awaited free roaming service for its prepaid customers of New Delhi which will enable the customers to receive free incoming calls in five states. With airtel free roaming plans pack, Airtel prepaid mobile customers now can get upto 30 days of free incoming calls while travelling to Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Uttrakhand and West Bengal (except Kolkata).

Airtel subscribers of New Delhi circle at present have so far been charged Re 1 for incoming calls, Re 1 for local outgoing calls and Rs.1.5 paise for STD calls while on roaming, the company said. But “With this pack, Airtel prepaid mobile subscribers can now get up to 30 days of free incoming calls while travelling to Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Uttrakhand and West Bengal (except Kolkata) by paying a tariff of Rs 21” Bharti Airtel said in a statement.
Earlier, the Centre had announced to make the roaming services free across the country from March 2013 but later on it was postponed to October 2013. The announcement came days after Minister for Telecom and information Technology(IT). Kapil Sibal said that the government is working seriously towards implementing roaming free services across the country. And also it is worth mentioning that the telecom companies are expected to account huge losses at the beginning of roaming charge free era. According to an estimate, from roaming charges telecom companies earn 10% of their total income.
